Regardless of your politics, there is one thing we can all agree on: Michele Bachmann (R-MN) delivered a good speech in last night’s debate. Having not even officially declared her candidacy for President prior to the debate, she not only entered the race but, after last night, appears to be leading the pact. While her views are indeed isolating to many, she was strong, forceful, and unwavering in her positions and, most importantly, in how she delivered those positions.
As CBS News put it: “She staunchly defended the Tea Party and unequivocally defended her views on social issues (“I stand for life”), but then reached out to a broad swath of the party by emphasizing her economic bonafides and experience in Congress… She show[ed] she was in the race to stay, and she did that by showing she has a record of fighting Obama (she would repeal “Obamacare”) and would take on Washington and her own party if necessary. (She took “principle over party” when she voted against President Bush’s financial bailout.)”
As for the soundbites that any great speaker would leave its audience, here are just a few:
“I want to announce tonight President Obama is a one-term president.”
“I will not rest until I repeal Obamacare.”
“There is no other agency like the EPA. It should really be renamed the job-killing organization of America.”
“I fought behind closed doors against my own party on TARP.”
